MEETING POINT: Outside South Park Cafe
Our South Park walk is just a nice slow relaxing stroll around the areas of the park and surrounding areas and caters for a range of abilities and dog types, from little ones to large ones! The idea of meeting up at the park is simply to build community. It is a nice relaxed environment that many people are familiar with and meeting up with new people and their dogs at this location allows a nice and relaxed space to get to know each other. After all, it’s easier to have a conversation with somebody while walking around South Park’s huge field, then it is walking in single file through a woodland track.
There is a variety of areas to explore at South Park, from the bandstand and rose garden to the pond, large field and river walk. The fields over the road from the park are also accessible by crossing the road or by walking under the bridge through the community gardens – although it can be a bit muddy at times – and it’s a great place to let the dogs run, play and even swim in the river. There is also a lake within strolling distance and it is easy to get to Geneva woods by quickly nipping through the housing estate and up by the community centre at Skerne Park, for those that fancy a longer walk.
The meeting point for all our walks in and around South Park, is around the cafe area. Here there is plenty of space and seating around the bowling green and plenty of space around the cafe that can be used as a meetup space. It makes sense then that we use the same place as our finishing point, in order to sit and refresh ourselves with tea, coffee, cake and ice-cream after a walk around the park. It would be rude not to!
